After having produced State rankers in Plus-Two examinations, the Dharmapuri-Krishnagiri region made a mark again, producing 10 out of 19 State first rankers in the SSLC examinations, the results of which were declared on Friday.
Of the 19 students who bagged the first rank in the SSLC examinations by scoring 499 out of 500, nine are from Dharmapuri district and one from Krishnagiri district. In all, the western region produced 11 first ranks. The other first-rank holder from the region is from Tirupur.
Eight students from Sri Vijay Vidyayala Group of Schools at Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri and two students of Senthil Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Dharmapuri scored 499/500.
R. Akshaya, P. Meivizhi, S.E. Santheya, R. Sreevandhana of Sri Vijay Vidyayalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School; A. Deepthi, G. Kiruthika, P.K. Revathi Abarna of Sri Vijay Vidyalaya Boys HSS; and A. Deepthi and R. Kayalvizhi of Senthil Mariculation HSS at Dharmapuri; and S. Kaviyah of Sri Vijay Vidyalaya at Krishnagiri are the first-rank holders.
Most of the toppers wish to pursue medicine and engineering. P. Meivizhi wishes to join the Indian Institute of Technology and become a mechanical engineer. R. Akshaya wants to specialise in cardiology.
S. Kaviyah wants to become an oncologist. Her older sister is doing MBBS. Their parents are PG teachers of Mathematics at the Government Higher Secondary Schools in Krishnagiri district.
While A. Deepthi of Senthil Matriculation School wants to become an IAS officer, her namesake — A. Deepthi of Sri Vijay Vidyalaya School — wants to become doctor.
For the first time, Tirupur produced a State first rank, with S. Varshini of Veveaham Girls Higher Secondary School at Dharapuram scoring 499. The only mark she lost was in Tamil. Varshini wants to become a doctor.
With too many students sharing the first three ranks, some of them told The Hindu in Namakkal that this trend over the last two years took away the thrill of bagging top ranks.
Second-rank holder S. Trisha said she prepared for the exams aiming for a State rank. “I am happy that I scored so high. But I feel lost among the many rank holders.”
In addition to the first ranks, the region produced 51 second ranks and 116 third ranks.
