The initial flows of the Cauvery water, released from Krishna Raja Sagar Reservoir in Karnataka on Thursday night, reached the Stanley reservoir at Mettur on Sunday morning.
This was in response to the direction of the Supreme Court to Karnataka to release 10,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second) till Monday.
Public Works Department officials told The Hindu that the water reached the dam at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday.
The water level at 8 a.m. on Sunday stood at 47.85 feet with inflow of 3,600 cusecs and outflow of 10,000 cusecs.
Earlier, the zero point of the river course at Billigundlu on the inter-State border recorded the early flows. Sources in the Central Water Commission said the inflow, which was around 10,000 cusecs at 6 a.m., crossed 11,000 cusecs four and a half hours later. At 1-30 p.m., the inflow was 13,700 cusecs.
Grand Anicut

The Public Works Department began releasing water on a turn system from Grand Anicut on Saturday.
While the discharge from the Mettur Dam was maintained at 10,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second), 5,000 cusecs was being released from the Grand Anicut into Vennar, which was covered first under the turn system. About 1,300 cusecs was being released into Grand Anicut canal from Grand Anicut.
Discharge will be increased with the arrival of water from Karnataka.
Meanwhile, the Thanjavur and Tiruvarur district administrations have started a drive to enrol farmers under the crop insurance scheme with the State government paying the premium. Last date for enrolling non-loanee farmers in the scheme is December 15.
