The wife of K.N. Ramajeyam, brother of former Transport Minister and DMK Tiruchi district secretary K.N. Nehru, has moved the Madras High Court Bench in Madurai seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into >his abduction and murder by unidentified assailants on March 29, 2012 .
The petitioner, R. Latha Ramajeyam (48), made the plea on the ground that the State police had not been able to crack the case for the past 32 months though it was initially investigated by the local police in Tiruchi and was transferred to Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department on June 22, 2012 on the basis of orders passed by the then Director General of Police.
When the petition came up for hearing before Justice R. Mala on Thursday, she directed the Deputy Superintendent of Police, CB-CID, Tiruchi, to file a detailed status report on the investigation conducted so far and adjourned the hearing after Christmas vacation.
Senior counsel R. Shanmugasundaram appeared on behalf of the petitioner and pressed for a CBI probe.
According to the petitioner, her husband was a leading entrepreneur dealing with granite mining, real estate and exports. He was also closely associated with the DMK. "The inability of the respondents 1 to 5 (DGP and others) in tracing the culprits, though my husband had been a very prominent person in the State, clearly indicates that they are not at all interested and their investigation is tainted," her affidavit read.
