Three persons were charred to death in an explosion at a cracker unit at Vijayaramapuram in Tuticorin district on Thursday evening.
N. Ravi (47) of Vijayaramapuram, the license holder of the unit, was injured critically. He was taken to a hospital.
The dead — P. Murugan (47) of Vijayaramapuram, T. Joseph (37) Panayadipatti, Sattur taluk and G. Ebenezar (34) of Achchangulam, Sattur taluk — were workers in the small cracker unit.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel of Sathankulam division arrived at the scene and doused the flames.
C. Manoharan, District Fire Officer, said the cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained.
