The BJP will forge a “strong alliance” in Tamil Nadu for the coming Lok Sabha polls, its national president Amit Shah said in Erode on Thursday.

This alliance, which could be formed in a “short span,” will contest from all the 39 Lok Sabha seats, he said while addressing handloom and powerloom associations.

“I want to assure the people of Tamil Nadu that the BJP is going to contest the elections in a strong alliance with an ally,” he said in his brief remarks on a poll pact.

AIADMK leader's remarks

Mr. Shah’s remarks assume significance as it comes a day after AIADMK deputy coordinator R. Vaithilingam, MP, said the party was holding ‘discreet’ talks with parties, including the BJP, for an electoral alliance in the coming general election.

“Discreet discussions are on,” and the outcome would be announced after they were over by AIADMK coordinator O. Panneerselvam and Joint coordinator K. Palaniswami, he said.

Asked with which parties the AIADMK was holding discussions, Mr. Vaithilingam said “the parties you said now,” indicating the BJP, the PMK and the DMDK.
