The Mallur Police rounded up Seeman, founder of the Naam Tamilar Katchi, and ten more party cadre, including two women, for visiting Koombankadu village in Parapatti panchayat to listen to the grievances of the farmers aggrieved over the execution of the Salem–Chennai green corridor project without police permission on Wednesday.

He was also charged with violating his bail conditions.

Police said that Seeman was arrested recently for making a defamatory speech and inciting violence while addressing the farmers of the villages in Omalur block where the government had proposed to acquire land for the airport expansion project.

The Omalur Judicial Magistrate Court granted him conditional bail last week directing him to sign at Omalur police station daily.

Meanwhile, Mr. Seeman visited Koombankadu village on Wednesday and made enquiries with the farmers and local people whose land and other properties have been marked by the revenue officials for acquisition for the expressway project.

10 NTK cadres held

On receiving information, Mallur police rounded up Mr. Seeman and ten of his supporters including two women, for visiting the village without permission and violating the bail condition.

Commotion prevailed when the people who had gathered to meet Mr. Seeman questioned the police action. They said that Mr. Seeman had come to hear their grievances and taking him into custody was not justified. They demanded the police to arrest them too.

However, police pacified them and took away the NTK leader and his supporters to Mallur.

Meanwhile in another incident, police rounded up more than 10 members of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam affiliated to the Communist Party of India (CPI) for meeting the aggrieved farmers in different villages. Gunasekaran, president of the Sangam, met the aggrieved farmers in Soolaimedu, Poonkadu, Athukadu, Sithaneri, Punjaikadu villages.

A police party rounded them up in Punjaikadu village, police sources said.
