Two defamation complaints were filed by State government against Ananda Vikatan , a Tamil weekly, for publishing an article which allegedly defamed two of its ministers — N.R. Sivapathy, Minister for Education, Sports, and Youth Welfare and K.T. Pachamal, Minister for Forests.
The State government has sanctioned its order to prosecute its publisher and printer, editor and reporter on behalf of the two ministers.
The complaint was filed in the Principal Sessions Court by the City Public Prosecutor on behalf of the State government.
The complainant said the weekly in its publication dated August 22 published an article stating that the ministers are under influence of their family members and not acting on their own.
Further, the news item is also defamatory per se, alleged the City Public Prosecutor.
