Students who happened to listen to V. Vishnu, Sub-Collector of Cheranmahadevi, in The Hindu Education Plus Career Counselling 2015 held here on Thursday were certainly a fortunate lot. When the young civil servant had delivered his motivational speech, it would have certainly actuate a good number of listeners to work hard towards the goal of becoming upright government officers by taking the competitive examinations.
Explaining lucidly the exercises the aspirants had to do regularly for cracking the competitive examinations, Mr. Vishnu told the students that it was sheer hard work that would help them conquer the goal of becoming a civil servant.
“I’m not a topper when I was in the SSLC, Plus Two or even when I did my engineering programme. If meticulous hard work could yield desirable results for me, it can do wonders for you too as you are living in the era of knowledge wherein you can get any information within a fraction of a second. But put in all your efforts towards achieving your goals,” said the Sub-Collector, who met the waiting students after participating in the annual ‘jamabhandi’ even without having his lunch.
Mr. Vishnu had to face a few ticklish questions from the younger generation that came down heavily on the government’s policy on caste-based reservation and sale of liquor through the outlets of TASMAC. However, the IAS officer effortlessly handled the situation.
When one of the participants appealed to the official to make arrangements for conducting coaching classes to help the rural students prepare for the competitive examinations, he said an effort in this direction had already been taken at Cheranmahadevi, where a few tahsildars and deputy tahsildars were conducting free coaching classes for the candidates writing competitive examinations.
He appealed to the aspiring civil servants to be compassionate in their approach always as every step taken by them when they were in power should alleviate the sufferings of the poor and the hitherto unreached.
