JICA signs loan of ₹680 cr. for biodiversity project

JICA has also signed a loan agreement to provide Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) loan, amounting to approximately ₹680 crores (JPY 10,535 million) for the Tamil Nadu Biodiversity Conservation and Greening Project for Climate Change Response.

The agreement was signed by Rajat Kumar Mishra, Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Saito Mitsunori, Chief Representative, JICA India, on Thursday, according to a release. The forest department of Tamil Nadu has planned to utilise the funds in various effective ways, including taking ecosystem-based climate change measures, human wildlife conflict mitigation measures, promoting supply chain development, livelihood improvement activities, and management capacity development. The loan is said to help the government improve ecosystem, which will in turn help in the State’s socio-economic development.
