In the event of death of an employee in the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, the legal heirs would be considered for appointment, depending on their qualification, at the most to the post of Junior Assistant, according to Collector N. Venkatachalam.

In a press release, he has stated that for appointment under compassionate grounds, the age of the legal heir (son or daughter) should be 18 to 35 years. If it was the spouse, the age limit was 50 years.

The application must to be submitted to the last served office within three years from the date of death of the employee. Age and educational qualifications would be taken into consideration on the date of submission of application. Once proposed, the name of the legal heir should not be changed.

Normally, postings under compassionate grounds would be made in the district in which the deceased worked at the time of his death. If there was no vacancy in the particular district, the legal heirs may apply in the respective panchayat union or district office, opting to work in the adjacent districts.

Their applications would be considered on the basis of vacancies available in other districts, he added.
