In continuance to last year’s trend, as many as 19 students shared the official first rank in the SSLC Class X examination whose results were announced on Friday. Of these, 18 students are girls, according to the Directorate of Government Examinations.
According to K. Devarajan, Director of Government Examinations, there are 19 official first rankers, 125 second rankers and 321 third rankers this year. The official State first ranks were cornered by students from Dharmapuri, Tirunelveli, Krishnagiri, Kallakurichi, Pattukkottai, Melur, Tuticorin, Aruppukottai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi and Tiruppur educational districts, according to a press release.
Three students, including Hema Varsini G. from Velammal Matriculation in the city, Durga Devi, TVS Matriculation Higher Secondary School Madurai and Vijayamoorthy S.V. from GRG Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore who did not take Tamil as first language scored a perfect 500/500, according to the Directorate of Government Examinations.
This is the third batch appearing for the examination following the Samacheer Kalvi Syllabus. A total of 10,20,749 school students who appeared for the examination secured a pass percentage of 90.7 per cent. This is a marginal increase from last year’s 89 per cent, according to a press release. With a pass percentage of 93.6 per cent, girls outshone boys who secured 88 per cent.
While the number of centums in Mathematics dipped by close 4,000, the number of centums in Science rose phenomenally from 38,154 in 2013 to 69,560 this year.
