Rich tributes paid to Marshal Nesamony

Floral tributes were paid to Marshal Nesamony on his 121st birth anniversary at the memorial at Veppamudu junction here on Friday.

Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan garlanded the bronze bust inside the Manimandapam in the presence of MLAs K.T. Pachaimal (Kanyakumari) and A. Nanjil A. Murugesan (Nagercoil).

Marshal Nesamony spearheaded the movement for the merger of Kanyakumari, which was with the erstwhile Travancore State, with Tamil Nadu. Kanyakumari was bifurcated from the Travancore State on November 1, 1956. District Panchayat Chairman M.S. Sarathamani and State Fisheries Cooperative Federation Chairman M. Xavier Manoharan, AIADMK minority wing leader Justin Selvaraj garlanded the statue.

Floral tributes were also paid by advocate Radhakrishnan on behalf of the Marshal A. Nesamony Peravai, and president of the Kanyakumari District Freedom Fighters’ Association Kumaradoss. Freedom fighters, representatives of local bodies participated.
