State launches cyclone rehabilitation project

To be based in Nagapattinam, with IAS officer in charge

As part of its relief and restoration efforts in the wake of Cyclone Gaja, the State government has launched the Gaja Cyclone Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Rejuvenation Project.

IAS officer D. Jagannathan has been appointed the Project Director, while M. Pradeep Kumar, another IAS officer, has been given the post of Additional Project Director.

The project would be implemented from its headquarters in Nagapattinam. While one sub-unit, with an office in Nagapattinam, would have jurisdiction over Nagapattinam and Tiruvarur districts, another sub-unit would be responsible for Thanjavur and Pudukkottai districts.

The initiative was proposed by the Commissioner of Revenue Administration following the Chief Minister’s announcement of a special project for the reconstruction of houses and other infrastructure and rehabilitation of those affected by the cyclone.

CMPRF contributions

The amount of money contributed to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund since Mr. Palaniswami’s plea for donations on November 19 in the wake of the cyclone reached ₹48.65 crore on Monday.

The CMPRF received contributions to the tune of ₹8.53 crore on Monday alone.
