Asserting that he had never gone back on his demand for creation of a separate Tamil Eelam, DMK president M. Karunanidhi said those who gave up the goal would be rejected by the people.
“As far as the DMK is concerned, Tamil Eelam is our objective. When we are nearing the objective, we will make our effort to achieve it,” he told reporters on Monday.
Mr Karunanidhi was responding to a question whether the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) was as powerful as it was — once even able to force former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to withdraw an order deporting LTTE leaders staying in Chennai. He said the TESO conference on August 12 would adopt a resolution against the continuous attacks on Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.
