Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko urged his party cadre to gear up for the Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking at a State-level party conference organised in connection with the 105th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister late C.N. Annadurai here on Sunday night, he said the MDMK was rejuvenated after witnessing betrayals in the last elections. But this time, the party would contest the polls irrespective of having an alliance with any party or not.
“We will not align with the DMK as its president M. Karunanidhi had betrayed the interests of Tamil people. And that does not mean that we will align with the AIADMK either,” he said.
Criticising the Central Government for its actions “taken against the interests of the Tamils”, Mr.Vaiko said the MDMK was not a spent force.
“In fact, the party got rejuvenated by not contesting the last Assembly polls. All the difficulties faced by us had helped us become stronger. I am confident that we will be a deciding force at the Centre in the coming days,” Mr. Vaiko said.
R.M. Shanmugasundaram, MDMK Virudhunagar district secretary, and senior leaders were among those who were present.
