Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao discussed about projects and funds to the State in his meetings with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Zubin Irani and Minister for Environment and Forests Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi on Sunday.

Speaking after the Chief Minister’s meeting with Mr. Rajnath Singh, TRS floor leader in the Lok Sabha B. Vinod Kumar said Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao had requested the Union Home Minister to give clarity on the institutions and organisations included in Schedules IX and X of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act stating that the attitude of A.P. on those institutions was leading to disputes between the two States.

“The Telangana government has ample clarity on the issue as the Act had clearly mentioned that ‘as is where is’ basis should be followed in the case of such institutions, but the over enthusiasm of A.P. was creating unsavoury and unnecessary situations. However, the officials of A.P. were trying to paint a different picture in the case of the institutions included in the two schedules,” Mr. Vinod Kumar said.

Powers to Governor

Mr. Rajnath Singh had promised to take up the matter with the A.P. government, take its opinion and would later give clarity, Mr. Vinod Kumar claimed. The contentious issue of extraordinary powers to the Governor on maintenance of law and order in the common capital area of Hyderabad had also figured during the discussion with the Union Minister, he noted.

In his meeting with Mr. Javadekar, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao requested the former to increase the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) funds from the existing 10 per cent to 30 per cent to the State for improving the green cover and release Rs. 1,100 crore funds under it. He also explained the ‘Haritha Haaram’ programme launched by the State government and sought Central assistance for it.

Further, the Chief Minister sought environmental clearance for Pranahitha-Chevella and other projects planned in Telangana. Similarly, he requested Ms. Smriti Irani to expedite the sanction of IIM and tribal university to Telangana as promised in the Reorganisation Act.

“Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao’s two-day visit to Delhi has helped in allaying the Centre’s misgivings based on false propaganda over the Intensive Household Survey and giving a fillip to Centre-State relations,” a party leader said on the conclusion of the visit.
