Governor unveils welfare-oriented agenda for Telangana

'Government would provide up to 12 per cent reservation in education and employment to tribals'

Telangana Governor E.S.L.Narasimhan on Wednesday unveiled the government’s pro-poor and welfare oriented agenda for governance in the next five years. In the maiden joint address to the Telangana legislature on Wednesday, Mr. Narasimhan listed out the government’s priorities touching upon different sectors of society. He said that as an initial measure to reduce debt burden for farmers, a waiver of crop loan up to Rs1-lakh would be implemented.

In a significant announcement, the Governor said his government would provide up to 12 per cent reservation in education and employment to tribals. He also said the Government was committed to provide up to 12 per cent reservation to the minorities. Recalling the sacrifices made by the youth and the students for the cause of statehood, he said his government would extend Rs. 10-lakh monetary assistance to each of bereaved families besides a job and cultivable land to eligible persons.

Asserting on zero tolerance towards corruption, Mr. Narasimhan said a single window clearance system would be put in place to give a thrust to industries. He also promised to constitute a Special Chasing Cell in the CMO to clear up coming projects with ‘zero corruption’ and no harassment of potential investors.

Significantly, the Governor also made a mention about not tolerating political corruption too. In his 25-minute address, the Governor promised to complete all pending projects. He said the government proposes to take up Palamuru lift irrigation project to bring large chunks of land in Mahabubnagar under cultivation. A survey would be undertaken shortly to take up Jurala-Pakala gravity project flowing through Gurramgadda in Mahabubngar to Pakala Tank in Warangal passing through Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda and Warangal districts.

Admitting that Telanagna State was facing power shortage, Mr. Narasimhan said the government would urge the Centre to set up a 4000 MW power plant by NTPC. In addition through the private sector, 6000 MW would be generated through T-GENCO.

Focusing on agriculture, the Governor said an agricultural and horticultural university, sugarcane research centre in Nizamabad and Turmeric Research centre in Mothe, Nizamabad district would be established. The Governor said incentives would be provided to entrepreneurs and farmers to take up poultry farming on a large scale.

On public health front, he said super specialty hospitals would be set up in all the districts and the existing bed capacity would be enhanced. The existing 108 and 104 services would be strengthened and operationalised. He listed out his government’s ambitious plan to establish cotton and silk hub in Warangal and Sircilla on the lines of Tirupur in Tamil Nadu. An industrial corridor would be promoted between Hyderabad and Warangal to boost employment opportunities.
