Police seize fake cotton seed, 3 arrested

Fake seed manufacturing facility uncovered

The Karimnagar Task force police personnel seized a record 14 quintals of fake and spurious cotton seeds in Karimnagar town on Monday night. On credible information about the manufacturing of fake seeds in Karimnagar town, the Task force police raided a house in Vinayaknagar locality on Monday night and seized 14 quintals of spurious and fake BT cotton seeds worth ₹ 17 lakh and also labels and covers of various branded companies of BT seeds. The accused persons were procuring the fake cotton seeds from Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh and mixing the fake seeds with some chemicals to change the colour and packing them in covers of leading brands and selling them in local market through a seed shop in Karimnagar. The police arrested M. Srinivas Reddy of Laxmipur village in Ramadugu mandal, M. Ramana Reddy of Vanthadpula village of Illanthakunta mandal and M. Madhusudhan, a former homeguard of Kothirampur locality in Karimnagar town. Task Force ACP Regya Naik, inspectors N. Srinivas Rao, E. Kiran, SIs M. Ramesh and M. Surender and others were involved in the raid.

Appreciating the Task Force police personnel for apprehending the accused involved in the fake seed production trade. Commissioner of Police V. B. Kamalasan Reddy said that they were keeping surveillance on the supply of spurious and fake seeds to the farmers.
