The Unnao rape survivor was shifted to Delhi from Lucknow on Monday night following a Supreme Court directive earlier in the day. The Delhi Traffic Police cleared a corridor from the IGI Airport to the AIIMS Trauma Centre for her speedy passage, officials said.
“On the advice of the AIIMS doctors, the ambulance carrying the injured person was provided free passage. It left T-1 airport at 9 p.m. and reached AIIMS at 9.18 p.m.,” a senior police officer said.
She was brought via Thimmaya Marg, Parade Road, GGR, Dhaula Kuan loop, Ring Road, Moti Bagh flyover, Hyatt flyover, under Raj Nagar flyover and Jhandu Singh Marg to the hospital, police said.
The rape survivor had suffered critical injuries in a car-truck collision last week.
The Supreme Court directed the Uttar Pradesh government to airlift the rape survivor for advanced treatment.
Critical state
A Bench of Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose passed the order after the mother of the girl, through her lawyer, informed the court that the victim, under critical care in a Lucknow hospital, had developed pneumonia.
The court said AIIMS should take over the responsibility of the girl “from the tarmac of the airport in Delhi.”
It also directed the UP government to provide the same facilities to the lawyer, who was travelling with the family when their car was rammed by a speeding truck near Rae Bareli, if the family requested it.
He had also been under critical care in the same hospital in Lucknow.
The woman was allegedly raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in 2017.
