We want action: Congress workers taking out a protest march in Yavatmal district on Monday.

Nagpur: The Congress took out a Virat Janakrosh Morcha (protest march) to the Yavatmal Collector’s office on Monday, protesting the farmers’ deaths after spraying pesticides in the last couple of months.

Party’s State unit president Ashok Chavan said the BJP government is a fraud. “The State and the Centre haven’t fulfilled a single promise made to the people. Twenty-two farmers have died in Yavatmal, and over 750 have been infected due to the pesticides’ use. Every day, farmers are dying in Maharashtra, but the government is ineffective,” said Mr. Chavan.

Lashing out at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, he said, people are dying in Yavatmal like insects, but this government is unmoved. “The CM is yet to visit the district,” Mr. Chavan said, demanding action against those responsible for the deaths.

The Congress leader said the government has increased the fuel prices, while inflation is high. “Atrocities on tribals, Dalits, and minorities have increased. The Maratha, Muslim and Dhangar communities have been cheated on reservation. Even the loan waiver announced by the government is an eyewash as farmers haven’t received a single penny.” He also alleged that the GST has destroyed the businesses and increased unemployment. “It’s time for a change and the Congress is ready to come onto the streets to fight for the people.”
