1. First Assembly Session of 2023 to begin on Jan 9
The first Assembly Session for the year 2023 is to begin on January 9, said the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly M. Appavu.
He who briefed journalists at Chennai said the session would begin with Governor R.N. Ravi’s address that would be aired live.
2. Private labs told to send all COVID-19 positive samples to TN Health Department
Stepping up the vigil against COVID-19 in the wake of surge in cases in several countries including China, Japan, the Tamil Nadu Health Department has instructed all private laboratories that test for the viral infection to send all the samples of patients who test positive, to the State Public Health Laboratory.
The SPHL at Chennai is to conduct whole genomic sequencing for all the samples of COVID-19 patients, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
3. Clear all pending applications for community, legal heir certificates in one month: CM
During a review meeting held at Chennai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin instructed officials of the Revenue Department to clear all pending applications for community, nativity, income and legal heir certificates within the next one month.
He chaired a meeting at the Secretariat to review the working of the Departments of Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS), Revenue and Disaster Management, Home and Transport.
He also went into the delay in clearing applications for ‘patta’ transfers in Thanjavur, Coimbatore and Madurai districts.
4. Coimbatore car blast | NIA continues field investigation with five accused
National Investigation Agency (NIA) officers continued their field investigation for the second day, in the Coimbatore car blast case.
NIA sleuths took the five accused men — Muhammad Azharudheen, Afsar Khan, Firoz Ismail, Umar Faaruq, and Ferose Khan, who were arrested for their alleged links to the October 23 car blast, to Anbu Nagar, G.M. Nagar, and near a shopping mall for the investigation.
5. 18th anniversary of tsunami observed
Marking the 18th anniversary of tsunami that claimed the lives of thousands in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu in 2004, fishermen folk and leaders across the State paid respects to the departed souls at seashores. Observing the memorial day, fishermen stayed off the seas.
