1. FM likely to be discharged from AIIMS today

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is likely to be discharged from AIIMS on Wednesday, according to sources. Sitharaman was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Monday with symptoms of viral fever. The sources said the minister is recovering and expected to be discharged from AIIMS today.

2. Punjab declares holiday on Wednesday in view of Shaheedi Sabha at Fatehgarh Sahib

The Punjab government has declared a holiday in the state on Wednesday in view of ‘Shaheedi Sabha’ to be held at Fatehgarh Sahib. It made the announcement in a statement issued on Tuesday.

BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda will be on a day-long visit to Odisha on Wednesday during which he will chair important party meetings and address public rallies. BJP chief spokesperson and MP Anil Baluni said Nadda will address a rally each in Kandhamal and Banpur in Puri. He will also pay floral tributes at Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati’s statue in Jalespata Ashram in Kandhamal.

4. AP CM may meet PM Modi in Delhi

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday left for the national capital, where he may meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some of the Union Ministers on Wednesday. According to official sources, Reddy is expected to bring to the notice of Modi issues related to AP Bifurcation Act and funds for Polavaram project. The state government which is implementing Polavaram Irrigation Project on Godavari River has been requesting the Centre to give some upfront amount so as to complete it without further delay.

5. HC refuses to extend stay on ex-Maha minister Anil Deshmukh’s bail

Former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh is likely to walk out of jail on Wednesday as the Bombay High Court on Tuesday refused to extend its stay on an order granting him bail in a corruption case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Justice M S Karnik had granted bail to the 73-year-old Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader on December 12, but stayed the order for 10 days as the CBI sought time to challenge it in the Supreme Court.

6. Congress Rajasthan unit convention on December 28

A convention of the Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee will be held here on Wednesday to discuss organisational and other issues. The convention is taking place barely a week after the Rajasthan leg of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. Party sources said some of the suggestions that came up during the yatra could also be discussed. The convention will be held at Birla Auditorium in Jaipur on December 28 on the foundation day of the Congress, a party spokesperson said.
