Water management

Published - June 26, 2019 10:53 pm IST

The water scarcity in Chennai is a good example of scarcity in plenty (Editorial, “A city gone dry”, June 26). Sheer mismanagement and a lack of planning are what have resulted in this state of affairs. Groundwater levels in the city are at a historical low and short-term measures will not suffice. The Tamil Nadu government needs to invest in watershed management in rural areas, focus on a targeted rejuvenation of water bodies and ensure that there is smart urbanisation with a prime focus on water recycling and conservation across households.
