: Ajit Chandila must be a rare bowler who dreamt of taking a hat-trick and lived his dream on a few occasions. But nothing as big as the Indian Premier League stage. His hat-trick against Pune Warriors India was the highlight of Rajasthan Royals' thumping victory on Sunday.
“I used to think of doing such things (hat-trick). I wanted to do something extraordinary. Rahul (Dravid) bhai told me that I would be playing today's match and I spoke to (Narendra) Hirwani, who is just like my elder brother and mentor. Hiru bhai has been a great support all through my career,” said Chandila.
Hirwani, currently a National selector, suggested some changes in his bowling action when umpires began suspecting. “It can be difficult for any bowler to come back, but Hiru bhai guided me.”
His plan was simple. “To bowl in the right areas. A hat-trick is a dream for any cricketer and I am happy that I achieved it here.”
When asked to comment on his action being similar to Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Sunil Narine, he joked, “It was only here that I saw him bowl. I think he has copied my action.”
For Pune seamer Ashish Nehra, it was tough to defend the team's poor show. “It is difficult to say what went wrong. Eight straight losses can be hard to explain. No batsman has scored consistently. We haven't clicked as a batting unit. You win some and lose some, but we should have done better.”
