The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) annual general meeting will be held on September 26. This was decided at the State body’s executive committee meeting here on Sunday.
Nominations for the various posts may be filed till September 25 (5 p.m.). As of now, none from the group opposing the ruling dispensation has come forward to stake a claim.
Meanwhile, the group owing allegiance to N. Srinivasan has been acting fast, deciding on its nominees at the EC meeting.
R.S. Ramaswamy from Salem has been named candidate for secretary, and K.A. Shankar for joint secretary. Both have previous experience as administrators in the TNCA.
And J. Parthasarathy, son of the late S.R. Jagannathan, a popular figure in the TNCA, is the ruling group’s nominee for the treasurer’s post.
Dindigul Venkataraman has been nominated for the job of assistant secretary-districts. Srinivasa Raju and Ashok Sigamani are the ruling faction’s choice as vice-presidents.
Srinivasan’s daughter Rupa Gurunath’s name for president is expected to be announced on the floor of the house on the day of the election, as is the norm. Those contesting for the president’s job do not have to file nominations.
In the absence of a viable opposition, all the above names should sail through in the election.
Some disappointment
There was a tinge of disappointment, though, in some quarters on no former cricketer being in the mix. Although there are some experienced administrators in those nominated, there seems to be a certain lack of dynamism.
With a young president in Rupa — she has been quietly groomed for the role by Srinivasan — likely to be running the show, a younger and a more enterprising team could have taken the TNCA into the future with its changing dynamics. And, a couple of former cricketers would have fitted the bill.
Meanwhile, the TNCA district secretaries will meet on Monday to pick three candidates from the districts for the executive committee.
