Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav plays a shot during his knock in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 match against Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai on April 3, 2019.

Mumbai Indians’ top-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav said that the team is keen to focus on the good things did against Chennai Super Kings as well as its strengths as it aims to move forward in the on-going Vivo IPL-12.

“Essentially, we played the brand of cricket for which Mumbai is famous for with everyone showing the ‘want to win’ attitude,” he said.

Plans in place

In a media briefing on the eve of the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad here, Suryakumar said they have been following the batting performances of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow and that they have plans for them.

“However, instead of thinking too much about that, we will play to our strengths. Yes, we didn’t have great starts at the top, but the important thing is all of them are batting really well. So, it is just a question of one big match to get going,” Suryakumar said.

“Personally, I am flexible to bat at any position and No. 3 here for Mumbai is pretty close to opening the innings. I always enjoyed batting anywhere. No doubt, this is a new role but I will try to give my best,” he said.

“I don’t think we will be missing (Lasith) Malinga for the whole season,” he said to a query.

Suryakumar felt there was no need to be concerned about the hesitant start to the IPL campaign. “It is a long season and we are confident,” he said.

Dark clouds hovered over the venue forcing the groundstaff to cover the playing area even as many nearby areas experienced heavy rain late in the evening.
