The Indian Premier League is the biggest T20 cricket extravaganza where battles are fierce, records are minted and new talents are spotted.

Now in its 12th avatar, IPL 2019 will overlap with the Indian General Election and is set to wind up about three weeks before the ICC World Cup.

*Note: The Delhi Daredevils team is now Delhi Capitals. Teams which are no longer playing have not been considered in the winning percentage calculations.

Considering only matches against current teams, three-time title winners Chennai Super Kings has won the highest percentage of matches: 61%. They are closely tailed by Mumbai Indians (Also three-time title victors), which has a 58% win rate. Delhi Daredevils (Now Delhi Capitals) has won the lowest percentage of matches (38%).

The home ground advantage is most pronounced in CSK's case, with the yellow jerseys winning 70% of their matches at home. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils had the lowest winning percentage at home (about 43%).

In 2018, competition was close between Chennai Super Kings, who took home the trophy, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both teams had won nine matches and lost five. Sunrisers had a higher net run rate, but they lost the final match by eight wickets.

This year, defending champions Chennai Super Kings are all set to face off against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opening match at the Yellows’ home ground, the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai on Saturday.
