Afghanistan will make its Test debut against India on June 14 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The war-torn country was made a full member of the International Cricket Council, together with Ireland, last year, becoming the sport’s 11th and 12th Test-playing nations. Ajinkya Rahane will lead India in the absence of Virat Kohli, who is headed to Surrey for a county stint ahead of the tour to England. Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO Shafiq Stanikzai said it would be a dream come true to begin their Test journey against India but that they would “miss” playing against Kohli. Coach Phil Simmons, former West Indies all-rounder, said he would bank more on his bowlers to trouble India.
One would be leg-spinner Rashid Khan who has been showing his class in the Indian Premier League, playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, currently leading the table.
