With the breakdown of the BCCI administration following the resignations of secretary Sanjay Jagdale and treasurer Ajay Shirke, the President N. Srinivasan has no option but to convene a special general meeting (SGM) as quickly as possible and pave the way for interim office-bearers to take charge until the annual general meeting in September.
Srinivasan, who has been reluctant to convene a meeting immediately after the arrest of Gurunath Meiyappan, his son-in-law and a key team management member of Chennai Super Kings, on charges of betting, would now be compelled to quit.
Even after Shirke and Anurag Thakur (jt. secretary) insisted on him to call for a meeting of all the members, there was only talk of Srinivasan’s readiness to convene a working committee meeting and not an SGM. Only 15 full members get a chance to attend the working committee, while all 30 full members constitute the SGM.

The working committee has to pass various committee reports, the annual report and accounts for 2012-13.
It is possible that an emergency SGM will be convened early next week to sort out the crisis.
