Viswanathan Anand drew with Levon Aronian to stay half-a-point ahead of the field after three rounds of the Sinquefield Cup chess here on Monday.

With all the boards ending in draws, Anand’s 42-move deadlock following repetition of moves proved enough to protect his lead.

The results (third round):

Levon Aronian (Arm, 1.5) drew with Viswanathan Anand (2); Magnus Calrsen (Nor, 1.5) drew with Fabiano Caruana (USA. 1.5); Ding Liren (Chn, 1.5) drew with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (Fra, 1.5); Wesley So (USA, 1.5) drew with Anish Giri (Ned, 1.5); Hikaru Nakamura (USA, 1.5) drew with Sergey Karjakin (Rus, 1.5); Ian Nepomniachtchi (Rus, 1) drew with Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Aze, 1.5).
