Four Indian judokas in line for bronze

Four Indian judokas — Sahil Pathama and Parikshit Kumar in men’s 100kg and +100kg and Rajwinder Kaur and J.D. Chongtham in women’s 68kg and +68kg — are in line for bronze medals.

Sahil beat Raymon Normeshe in the quarterfinals, but a loss to Jason Koster (New Zealand) pushed him into the repechage, where he defeated Dominic Dugase (Seychelles). He will take on Tim Slyfield (New Zealand) for the bronze.

Parikshit Kumar beat Abdul Razak (Malaysia) before losing to S. Rosser (New Zealand). In the repechage he downed G. McNeil (Northern Ireland) and will meet Jake Andre Narthe (Australia) for a podium finish.

Rajwinder Kaur began with a defeat to Jodie Myers (England) but defeated Sophie Vallancourt (Canada) to get to the medal round, where Akimyi Ester Ratugi (Kenya) awaits her.

J.D. Chongtham lost to Al Portuondo (Canada) and will vie with Atangana Mballa (Cameroon) for the bronze.

India went without a medal in the men’s 62kg weightlifting on Friday night as Rustam Sarang, the lone entrant, finished seventh with a total of 263kg.

Sejwal crashes out Sandeep Sejwal crashed out of the 100m breaststroke final finishing sixth in the semifinal heats, timing 1:03.24, also on Friday night. 

Beijing 2008 bronze-medallist boxer Vijender Singh won a unanimous points decision over Andrew Kometa to advance into the round of 16 in the men’s 75kg class.

M. Manoj Kumar made it to the 64kg pre-quarterfinal beating Mokhachane Moshoeshoe (Lesotho) on points.

Late on Friday night, Mandeep Jangra advanced into the 69kg last 16 earning a points decision against Agusto Malthule (Mozambique).
