Chitradurga is one of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka, India. It comprises eight legislative assembly segments. This arid region of Central Karnataka has also been affected by the severe drought in the State, with farmers experiencing losses from their coconut and areca plantations. The Scheduled Castes (left), Muslims, Veerashiava-Lingayats, Vokkaligas, Gollas, Nayakas and Lambanis along with Minor Backward Classes (MBCs) are considered politically important for their numerical strength. Chitradurga is among the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in State where women voters are high in number. Called as the Fort City for its rocky hills and valleys with towering boulders, it is renowned for its 15th century "Kallina Kote" or Stone Fortress. The legend of Onake Obavva, a valiant female historical figure, draws many tourists to the region.
